The Secret of Aspartame In Common Foods  - Do You Know What You’re Eating?

Aspartame is a sweetener (Nutrasweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc.) found in many foods and drinks throughout the world.  Aspartame is usually always found in products designed for individuals who have to limit their natural sugar intake or products designated as “diet;” however, it is not limited to those foods and drinks only, but is found in many others.  

  • What is the big deal behind aspartame?

When we consume aspartame it gives the body aspartate which is a neurotransmitter used in the brain.  Our body keeps this and other neurotransmitters in a chemical balance to prevent toxic effects and health issues.  When we consume aspartame we cause the body to continually build levels of this neurotransmitter to toxic levels and bring on various health issues.  This is an especially serious risk to the developing brains and nervous systems of children.  

  • How can something like this be in our food?

Simply put, who knows?  Aspartame was approved by the FDA in the 1970’s and the approval of the chemical to be used in food has a cloudy story.  Scientific research and case studies shows that the approval was a mistake no matter what happened.  

  • So what are these health risks?

There is a long list of health issues reported to be associated with the aspartame consumption.  These include:  Panic attacks, anxiety, seizures and convulsions, dizziness, tremors, migraines and severe headaches, memory loss, slurring of speech, numbness or tingling extremities, chronic fatigue, depression, insomnia, irritability, marked personality changes, phobias, rapid heart beat, asthmatic reactions, chest pains, hypertension, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, swallowing pain, itching, hives, blood sugar problems, menstrual problems or changes, impotency, craving for food, weight gain, hair loss/thinning, burning urination, excessive thirst,  bloating, infection susceptibility, joint pains, brain cancer, and death.  Because each of us is different, we can have different symptoms to varying degrees.  Some people’s bodies detoxify better than others, but why put your body through this if you don’t have to?  

  • What should I do now?

If is seems like we’re doomed to disease, we’re not.  There are ways to avoid and replace products containing this chemical without even changing our whole diet.  There are also ways to detoxify our bodies.  The important thing is to know the facts and take action.
